Property Accountant - Commercial Real Estate

Department: Accounting
Location: San Antonio, TX

Position Summary:

The Property Accountant will be responsible for various accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing support to the property management and finance teams.

Key Performance Outcomes:

  • Reconcile all accounts across all entities within ten (10) days of month end
  • Achieve a 100% on-time completion rate for financial reporting
  • Maintain journal entry accuracy rate of 99% or higher
  • Maintain account reconciliation accuracy rate of 99% or higher
  • Record and pay all commissions in the same month received with an accuracy rate of 99% or higher

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Accounting:
    • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for multiple entities within the company
    • Perform month-end close procedures, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis
    • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
    • Monitor and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions
    • Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial data and resolve discrepancies
  • Property Accounting:
    • Assist Property Manager is property-level accounting activities, such as rent roll analysis, lease administration, and tenant billing
    • Assist Property Manager as needed to reconcile property-level accounts, including bank accounts, security deposits, and accounts receivable/payable
    • Assist in the preparation of CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and property tax assessments
    • Maintain accurate records of property-related financial transactions and ensure compliance with lease agreements
  • Multi-entity Accounting:
    • Coordinate and consolidate financial information from multiple entities within the company
    • Assist in the preparation of intercompany transactions and reconciliations
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards across all entities
    • Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements, as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification or progress towards certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the commercial real estate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including construction and property accounting.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software (Yardi experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
