Senior Accountant - Property Accounting Exp Required

Department: Accounting
Location: San Antonio, TX

Position Summary:

The senior accountant's responsibilities include overseeing the preparation of financial reports, account reconciliations, the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned

Key Performance Outcomes:

  • Meet month end, quarter end and annual reporting deadlines
  • Utilization of new accounting software
  • Develop/Write MERIT’s accounting processes and procedures
  • Implement accounting processes to increase efficiency

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Accounting team including training, support and disciplinary action
  • Plan, coordinate and manage all accounting operational functions for MERIT as an operating company and each special purpose entity
  • Manage/assist with the accumulation of all financial data and monitor performance metrics (at operation and project levels)
  • Manage/assist with budgeting process for both internal and special purpose entities
  • Manage/assist with accounts payable & accounts receivable functions
  • Manage/assist with forecasting process for internal review to gain a more accurate depiction of cash flows to assist in decision making
  • Prepare financial statements for internal and external reporting
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third party service providers
  • Research and implement new accounting processes to continuously improve accounting operations
  • Manage/assist with regulatory reporting including tax planning and investor financial updates
  • Develop, evaluate, and maintain internal accounting control processes
  • Manage/assist with development and construction loan draws
  • Maintain capital schedules and review and analyze capital needs
  • Work closely with the capital markets department to ensure capital activity meets agreed upon structures

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar accounting role within Commercial Real Estate
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, databases and accounting software (preferably YARDI)
